I knew Pep Guardiola had trick up his sleeve for Man City after reaction to RB Leipzig goal

Pep's telling reaction to Dias mistake

After picking up a yellow card, Ruben Dias dared not bring down Lois Openda on the halfway line as he turned the centre-back and looked to race into the City half. Dias - probably cleverly - pulled out of the challenge, right in front of Pep Guardiola, who lifted his arms and turned away in frustration. He turned round to see Openda put Leipzig two goals ahead after Manu Akanji's mistake put him through for the first.

Guardiola had similarly angry reactions to missed chances from Rico Lewis and Erling Haaland as City toiled in the first half, and used a head injury to Jack Grealish to call his other ten players over for a mid-game team talk. After Dias' mistake, he sent Nathan Ake out for a lengthy warm-up to send a message - even if he has previously said he would prefer players not to risk a red card even if it concedes a scoring chance (remember Joao Cancelo's red card against Fulham last season?).

Regardless, Guardiola was furious on the touchline throughout Tuesday's contest in City's worst display since January's first half against Tottenham that sparked his infamous 'happy flowers' rant. Dias didn't come out for the second half as Ake came on, with Guardiola clearly making that decision before the break as he frantically scribbled notes with his assistants.

After replacing Dias before he was sent off, Guardiola then brought on Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvarez six minutes into the second half, presumably two more planned changes from that conference with the coaches. City had one back instantly with Alvarez
