I have coached Patrick Dorgu - I hope his Manchester United transfer falls through
Former Denmark Under-19s and current FC Nordsjaelland coach, Jens Fonnskov Olsen, has expressed his desire to see Manchester United's proposed move for Patrick Dorgu fall through this month.
United manager Ruben Amorim has identified Dorgu as his top target for January with his versatility as a left-back as well as a winger particularly appealing to the club. The Reds are currently entrenched in talks for the Lecce man, but the Italian club insist they are confident of keeping hold of their star player this winter.
Speaking to Tipsbladet, Olsen is not surprised to see Dorgu attract attention from United considering the talent he observed when working in the Denmark youth system. "Patrick left North Zealand and he went to a slightly smaller place in Italy and he took the chance there - where he has been well-educated - especially in the defensive part of the game, where he may have lacked something at Lecce," he explained.
"I was really happy with him [in the U19 national team]. I think he had some exciting skills.
"I had him on the national team, and he stuck with it pretty quickly. Patrick is fast and he's forward-thinking, he can head both offensively and defensively, and he has a very, very good left foot.
"He's a creative player who can also play on the pitch and solve some things. I'm incredibly happy I brought him in and just believed in him in that situation - and I'm really happy for him - in terms of how his career has developed."
However, when he was asked if he would be happy to see Dorgu depart Serie A for United, Olsen changed his tune and insisted that a move with more "stability" would be preferable. "If I have to be a little cheeky, I hope he chooses something other than Manchester United right now," he
