Drunk thug goaded pal into attacking Good Samaritan stating: "I'll give you £20 if you bottle him"
A drunk thug goaded his pal into attacking a Good Samaritan who intervened in an attack on another man. Matthew Wilson was drinking in a pub on Deansgate, in the city centre, with Alex Fraser, when a man walked past.
The pair had been overheard ‘boasting’ about being involved in the riots last year following the stabbings of three little girls in Southport.
As the man walked past, Mr Fraser was heard to shout: “What the f*** are you looking at” before both men followed him further down the road. He was then seen on CCTV footage to throw a glass towards him before punching him.
On the opposite side of the road a second man, who was waiting for the bus, ran over to help, telling the pair to stop, Manchester Crown Court heard.
This allowed the first man to run away, before Mr Fraser and Wilson’s attention was turned to him.
“They shouted at him ‘What are you looking at’ and told him to ‘f*** off’ before he saw Mr Fraser take a bottle from his pocket,” said Kate Gaskell, prosecuting.
“Mr Wilson was heard to say to Mr Fraser: ‘I’ll give you £20 if you bottle him”. Mr Fraser then punched the second male.”
Wilson was arrested later that night by Manchester Cathedral and was abusive towards officers. He has since pleaded guilty to affray.
The court was told that co-defendant Alex Fraser has since passed away whilst on remand in custody. Sentencing judge, the Recorder of Manchester, Judge Nicholas Dean KC said: “It is very sad, he was a very young man. As the defendant is deceased, that concludes his case.”
In a statement, the second complainant said he found it distressing to watch the attack on the Asian male, and he has been left with a cut to his eye and bruising.
Wilson was said to have previous convictions for public
