'I'd like to see them telling the truth': What the residents of Greater Manchester town think about Starmer and Sunak

The residents of the Wythenshawe and Sale East constituency are frustrated.

Frustrated with the lack of change they have seen in their local area, many feel as though they have been 'promised the world' and yet have seen no difference.

The Manchester Evening News visited the busy Wythenshawe shopping centre to hear what they would like to see improved after the upcoming general election.

Many said they were 'tired of politics' with one person adding, "what's the point? Nothing ever changes."

This became a common theme around the area, with Francis, 77, saying, "I'd like to see them telling the truth in terms of the manifesto and to do what they are telling people that they are going to. Instead of promising you the world and then giving you nothing."

Linda, 67, was helping a homeless woman on the street nearby. She had just purchased a trolley for the woman to put her clothes in. "It is hard to believe that people are on the street today," she said.

She continued: "Its what's needed for the people on the streets. It shouldn't fall onto people like myself helping."

Amongst many voters in the constituency there was hostility towards parliament in general. John, 76, said: "After 14 years of Tory rule this country is a mess. Everything is worse under this present government and we need change".

"All they think about doing is staying power, and not what is best for the country."

Duncan, 63, was also critical of the current government, he said: "They have let the country down."

As a shop manager he wanted to see an improvement to the high street. "They need to look at business rates."
