The best new restaurants and bars opening in Greater Manchester in July 2024

After a dismal few months on the weather front, we’ve finally enjoyed our first dose of sunshine.

It may have taken until the latter half of June, but the blue skies and warmer temperatures have finally appeared, prompting many of us to pitch up in beer gardens to watch the Euros, or avoid the tournament all together and opt for an al fresco dinner.

And we’ve had some new places to visit and soak up the sun this past month too. There’s the new Irish bar, Mother Mary’s, which has taken up residence in the former Font site near Oxford Road; a new neighbourhood cafe in Salford from the team behind The Black Friar; and hit pasta spot Onda’s first permanent site looking out onto Circle Square.

And, as the weather heats up, so too does Manchester’s host of hospitality openings. This summer, we’ll get the chance to dine at a brand new tapas spot in a Stockport neighbourhood, enjoy massive sandwiches courtesy of two new delis, and dine out at the city’s newest steak spot, Flat Iron.

Affordable London steakhouse chain Flat Iron lands on Deansgate this month. Opening on July 3 within the former premises of the Royal London Friendly Society - a Grade II-listed building first opened in 1908.

The chain is known for its signature ‘Flat Iron’ steak, taken from the often overlooked featherblade, and comes in at £14. It also serves burgers for around £13, a special Scottish ribeye cut exclusive to Manchester, as well as sides including beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.
