'I couldn't have been any lower' – Cardiff City's Jordan Hugill opens up on West Brom hell and his perfect response to that celebration

Jordan Hugill revealed he moved to Cardiff City because he needed some love after hitting rock bottom at West Brom.

The striker announced himself in dream fashion when he hit the back of the net just five minutes into his Bluebirds debut on Sunday afternoon..

Cardiff ran out eventual winners, with Isaak Davies scoring the second in a 2-1 win to cap off the perfect start to life in the Welsh capital for the Norwich City loanee.

And it was just what the doctor ordered for the 29-year-old because, as he said himself, his first half of the season was miserable. He played only a bit-part under Valerien Ismael at The Hawthorns and admitted he could not have been much lower.

"I'm a fighter, I was born a fighter. I've fought for everything I've got in my life," he said, explaining the move to south Wales.

"I never turn down a challenge and I looked at the team here, I know what kind of club Cardiff is and it just got me going.

"The manager instilled some confidence in me that I've been lacking due to certain things going on this season, not playing for a long time.

"I needed [Steve Morison] to put some confidence in me, tell me I was his first target and that was it, that sold it for me.

"After not playing for a long time... I don't think I could have been any lower towards the back end of the first six months (of the season).

"Things weren't working out for me and to get that goal was just more relief than anything.

"There are certain things that went on that are not for me to say. It is what it is. I just knew I had a lot of people to prove wrong this year and this second half of the season, I can't wait for it."

He had an honest conversation with Norwich City boss Dean Smith before the Canaries decided to cut his Baggies loan
