Man City U23s 2-0 West Ham highlights and reaction as McAtee scores panenka to send Blues seven points clear

Manchester City took a huge step towards retaining their Premier League 2 title on Sunday as they beatsecond-placed West Ham at the Academy Stadium.

City went into the game leading the Premier League 2 by four points, but West Ham have a game in hand in second place. Were the Hammers to beat City on Sunday, and then win that extra game, they would have leapfroged the Blues, but instead City move seven points clear with victory.

Brian Barry-Murphy's side were on a run of five straight wins, and included regulars James McAtee, Romeo Lavia and Liam Delap, who were all on the bench for the first team in Saturday's Premier League defeat to Tottenham. Others, like Kayky and Luke Mbete, also start having featured in recent first team squads, before dropping down to the under-23s for their league games.

McAtee put City ahead with his 21st goal of the season with a sublime panenka penalty after Delap was brought down, before West Ham defender Jamal Baptiste was sent off after half an hour. Substitute Carlos Borges fired in from close range on the hour mark to secure the win.
