I couldn't believe what Bruno Fernandes did after I scored against Manchester United - it was pure class

Newport County's star player Will Evans has praised Manchester United and their captain Bruno Fernandes for the respect they showed during their recent FA Cup match.

United came away with a 4-2 win at Rodney Parade at the end of January after goals from Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund booked United's place in the fifth round of the FA Cup for the ninth time in the past decade. An away tie at Nottingham Forest now awaits the Red Devils in the next stage of the competition.

This match was far from plain sailing for Erik ten Hag's team, who led 2-0 during the game and were then pegged back to 2-2 by their League Two opponents. Evans brought Newport level after his team-mate Bryn Morris scored nine minutes before half-time.

Shedding light on the respect shown to him by Fernandes, Evans told GoalPostsTV: "Obviously we have got a few Liverpool fans in our team as well and we were saying we can't wait to get into Antony or Bruno [Fernandes]. Everyone came off the pitch saying the same about all of them. Saying that they are the most genuine and they are just normal blokes, if you know what I mean.

"Like Bruno, after I scored my goal, I was running back and he's tapped me on the back and said 'good finish mate'. In his post-match interview he said about Bryn Morris' strike. He said 'the lad scored a brilliant goal just before half-time' and you think he didn't have to say that."
