Hythe Town manager Ira Jackson explains why he will never be completely happy despite flying start for Southern Counties East pacesetters
Ira Jackson says he will never be completely happy as he strives to get the best out of his Hythe Town players.
Jackson has enjoyed a fine start to management with the Cannons taking seven points from their opening three games to top the fledgling Southern Counties East Premier Division standings.
After a weekend off, they visit Erith & Belvedere this Saturday and host Kennington on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3pm).
Jackson is encouraged by Hythe’s start to the season but knows there’s plenty of work ahead.
“We continue to remain grounded. I’m not over-excited by the start,” said Jackson.
“I said to the boys the other day, I’m never going to be completely happy because I know what we can achieve and who we can become.
“That’s the reason we’ve signed the players we’ve signed and so I’m never going to be completely happy because there’s always stuff we can improve.
“We’re never going to be the finished article but I can be proud of where we are at the moment.”
Hythe went top after beating Snodland 4-0 at home on Tuesday last week.
Jackson was away with work, leaving assistant manager Josh Algar and goalkeeper coach/under-23s boss Joe Clayson in charge.
He praised them for doing a “phenomenal job”.
The table means nothing at this stage of the season but the Cannons couldn’t avoid seeing it, even if they wanted to.
“We know where we are in the table,” said Jackson.
“It’s not something we’re looking at avidly after every game but it’s something that gets posted and shared, so even if we didn’t want to look at it, we are going to find it somewhere.
“It’s a consequence of what’s happening on the pitch.
“If we weren’t doing well, we’d know where we were, and at the moment we are doing well, so we know where we are as well.
