Hythe Town assistant manager Darren Beale excited by new chairman Matt Smith’s plans as Cannons start pre-season training

Hythe assistant boss Darren Beale says the new regime at his hometown club has come at the right time.

Beale and manager Sammy Moore were appointed by Gary Johnson in the final weeks of last season.

But they find themselves working with new chairman Matt Smith, who has wasted no time putting his plan into action.

There have been big improvements at Reachfields, with Smith, the former Sheppey chairman, investing in pitch improvements and transforming the clubhouse.

“It’s great to start at the same time as the new owner and hopefully we can go on the journey together.”

Hythe started pre-season training on Saturday.

Among those in attendance was latest signing Louie Procopi, the teenage defender who had a trial at Premier League Brentford last season.

He’s joined from Ramsgate and looks set to see plenty of action in a Cannons shirt.

“The lad’s a real talent,” said Beale. “It’ll be interesting to see how
