Hull FC shown warning signs as top four hopes rest on repeating early-season trick

After a two-week break, Hull FC return to Super League action this Sunday afternoon, travelling to Wakefield for a second time this year.

The Black and Whites put in a season best performance against Wigan last time out, and if victory here should come and results elsewhere go their way, then they could be looking at finishing round 14 in fourth place – not that anyone within the club will be getting carried away.

With that in mind, Hull Live takes a look at Hull FC’s last five trips to Belle Vue.

On a heavy pitch, Hull started the year with a tough and narrow victory, grinding out a four-point win in atrocious wet weather conditions. All three new signings scored the Black and Whites’ three tries, with Luke Gale, Darnell McIntosh, and Joe Lovodua getting over the line.

It was the Fijian’s outrageous dummy that most fans will remember though having ghosted through a gap the size of the Humber Estuary. Hull at that point were pretty comfortable, but a sending off for Jake Connor meant they had to dig deep as Wakefield came at them late on.

Tries came from Mitieli Vulikijapani and Jordan Lane, not that it perked up any of the hardcore fans who stuck with the side as they lost nine from ten to finish the season.
