Hull FC players need to show some accountability and stop hiding behind Brett Hodgson

For Hull FC under Brett Hodgson, it's always been about their standards. Win, lose, or draw, it's about being in the contest, staying in the fight, and showing both personal and team pride. However in shipping 62 points to Leeds on Saturday afternoon, all those components went out of the window.

After a poor start, Hull built themselves back into the game, only to slip back into old ways. It was not only a humiliating defeat, but a reopening of old wounds. That's the concern. That last quarter collapse had the same stench as the end of Lee Radford's reign; it was absolutely rudderless with a defence that soon went into arthritic cardboard cut out mode faster than you could blink.

Of course, some perspective is needed here. Hull had square pegs in round holes across the field. That only got worse when Cam Scott went off injured - with a back rower in Jordan Lane moving to centre. Already, this Hull side had a prop playing back row, a hooker playing loose forward, another hooker playing half back, and a centre playing wing, with key players also missing and a good percentage of the salary cap sat in the stands.

And we're not just talking any players here, but players crucial to the Hull system, and non-more so than the side's best player Jake Connor. They are all contributing factors to what transpired against Leeds, but they certainly don't excuse what unfolded.
