Brett Hodgson admits Hull FC in a rut following shocking defeat to Castleford
Hull FC head coach Brett Hodgson didn't hide away from his side's flaws following a 18-46 defeat to Castleford Tigers on Friday night. The Black and Whites are now outside of the play-off positions and have lost six of their last seven games.
Leading 18-14 at half time, a second half collapse ended up with Castleford scoring 38 unanswered points either side of the break, with Hodgson admitting his side are in a rut. The head coach questioned the attitude of his side and their willingness to defend, with the Tigers scoring eight tries inlcuding six after the break.
It wasn't just things like a soft underbelly returning either, with Hull also handed three cards on the night with Connor Wynne getting two yellow's and Ligi Sao a red. Poor discipline was evidently a problem throughout.
"That second half was nowhere near good enough," Hodgson said post-match. "That second half was there to be won but the way we came out didn't allow us to win. We spoke about how they're a good second half team and we had to be at our best. We just didn't come back out.
"We can't continue to have bad discipline and give field position up against an oppositon were eventually we know it will tell. You just can't win games like that.
"The dissapointing thing today was we thought it was tougher pushing and shoving than it was actually defending. The fact that we got three people carded is just not okay. That puts us under too much pressure.
"It's a tough period we're going through. Collectively as a group there are elements that need to be better. There are some players that absolutely have the pride in their shirt and in their performance, but they're are others that are not doing enough."
Recent results don't make for pretty reading, with
