Hull FC appeal Ligi Sao's charge in hope of freeing star prop for Magic Weekend

Hull FC have decided to appeal Ligi Sao's two-match ban. The Black and Whites will go to a tribunal on Tuesday evening, scheduled for around 6:30, to contest a charge for kicking out.

The incident happened in the defeat to Leeds Rhinos on Saturday during an off-the-ball incident. It resulted in a suspension being imposed by the Rugby Football League's disciplinary process.

It meant that he would miss Sunday's pivotal Magic Weekend Derby against Hull KR alongside Kane Evans and Jordan Johnstone, who both received two-match bans themselves. FC will not appeal either of their charges.

If he's successful, Sao could have his ban thrown out or halved, though the outcome remains to be seen. It could also be considered a frivolous appeal and have an extra game added to the ban. Rovers will be hoping for the first of those three scenarios which would make him available for selection this weekend.

Three other hearings will be heard tonight. St Helens have decided to appeal Matty Lees' one-match ban while tribunal hearings for Catalans' Dylan Napa and Halifax Panthers' Greg Worthington will also be heard after they were cited for Grade D offences.

FC are currently facing a selection crisis which has seen them draft in three players. Ellis Longstaff, Jack Walker and Josh Simm have all joined on loan deals to ensure Brett Hodgson has options at his disposal for Sunday. He will, however, be hoping Sao is among them having proven to be one of the club's key players so far this season.
