Hull City vice-chairman claims Sheffield Wednesday offer for Mallik Wilks 'not enough'

Hull City vice-chairman Tan Kesler has confirmed negotiations over a deal for Mallik Wilks remain ‘open’ despite Sheffield Wednesday’s opening offer not being ‘enough to consider’. Reports emerged over the weekend that a £200,000 deal was edging closer, though Kesler has denied that being the case.

Wilks is said to be keen on a summer switch to Hillsborough, with a two-year-deal on the table as Darren Moore looks to bolster his attack ahead of the new season. Talks have been ongoing regarding Hull's asking price for Wilks, who netted three times in 20 appearances last season in a campaign when he suffered injury issues and a loss of form.

But Wilks has been prolific in both of his spells in League One during his career, finding the net on 33 occasions in 90 outings, which is why Wednesday are keen on bringing him to South Yorkshire. However, in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield, Kesler has claimed there is still plenty of work to be done for Wednesday to get a deal over the line.

He said: “They have a genuine interest but Mallik is someone who has had his good days with us. He’s out there training properly and competing, he always has a jersey here. With all due respect Sheffield Wednesday the offer is not enough for us to consider.

“I think the offer for Mallik should be higher because if he’s seeing himself, and they’re seeing him in that price level, I think he better stay here. The negotiations are open, you cannot close the doors to anyone or any player.
