Hull City supporters react to retained list as club captain Richie Smallwood is released

Hull City have revealed club captain Richie Smallwood has been released after they announced their retained squad list for the 2022/23 season.

Smallwood was instrumental in helping the Tigers back to the Championship during the 2020/21 campaign, and featured heavily this season too.

Making 42 appearances in the second tier of English football this season, Smallwood is joined by Tigers veteran Tom Huddlestone and Tom Eaves, who both depart the MKM Stadium when their contracts expire on June 30.

One-year options on Matt Ingram, Callum Elder, Josh Emmanuel, George Honeyman and Mallik Wilks have been exercised with the quintet now set to remain with the Tigers for next season.

In the U23s, one year options have been exercised on David Robson, Matty Jacob, Josh Hinds and Billy Chadwick, while Harry Fisk, Jake Leake, Tom Nixon, Harry Lovick, Oliver Green, Will Jarvis and McCauley Snelgrove have all been offered new deals. Louis Beckett and Ahmed Salam have both been released.

The U18s saw Alfie Taylor, Sincere Hall, Harry Wallis, Tom Macauley and Jevon Mills all receive professional contracts, with the youth prospects now set to move up to the U23s.

Second-year scholars Sam Deacon, Henry Curtis, Billy Leach and Rio Dyer will all depart Hull at the end of their scholarships while first-year scholars Ben Voase, James Carr, Keegan Green, Jake Brown, Kyle Fanning, Aman Panesar and Glen Sani will move into their second year with the Tigers.

And fans have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the Tigers retained list...

Elsewhere, City made a transfer breakthrough this morning as they agreed a deal in principle to sign Mali international midfielder Adama Traore on a free transfer from Turkish side Hatayspor.
