Hull City looking to strike transfer deal with West Ham
Hull City have opened talks with West Ham in an attempt to bring Harrison Ashby to the MKM Stadium, as per a report from Football Insider.
The 20-year-old, who operates as a right-back, is being viewed by the Tigers as a potential loan option before tonight’s cut-off.
Described as a very attack-minded full-back, Ashby made his Premier League debut for the Hammers during a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
Ashby has also featured twice from the very start at first-team level this season, with appearances against Tottenham Hotspur and Dinamo Zagreb in the cup.
Ashby’s attacking drive is highlighted in his contributions for the club’s U23s, with Ashby scoring three and proving eight assist in 30 PL2 matches.
David Moyes is keen to get some Championship experience into the young defender, with Hull seeing a number of young players flourishing this season.
The verdict
Hull does seem like a good destination and a good fit for the young full-back, especially when considering the attacking freedom that the wing-backs get in Hull’s 3-4-1-2 formation.
Ashby is seemingly progressing at an exciting rate with West Ham and a Championship move could really help take him to that next level, which is ultimately competing for regular Premier League football.
Ashby would add some excellent competition into the squad, and with new manager Shota Arveladze recently arriving, it would appear that places will be up for grabs.
Hull are currently 19th in the Championship standings, however, it does not appear that they are in any immediate danger of the relegation places, given the 12-point gap they possess over Peterborough United in 22nd.
