Hull City boss drops surprise news in boost to Tigers for Luton Town visit

Hull City could welcome back Nathan Baxter for Saturday’s home game with Luton Town at the MKM Stadium, in what will be a significant boost for the Tigers ahead of the international break.

Baxter, who is on loan from Chelsea, has been sidelined with a hand injury since the 2-0 win over Swansea City at the end of January, giving Matt Ingram the chance to pin down his spot with the number one jersey after losing it in November,

Arveladze had originally expected the Chelsea loanee to remain out of action until next month, but has revealed the 23-year-old could be involved this weekend, meaning Harvey Cartwright – fresh from his England Under-20 call-up – will not be involved on the bench.

“Nathan could be back this weekend,” revealed Arveladze in his pre-match media duties. "He has trained with the team. He’s had a full session so we’ll probably take him (to the game) if he feels fine. Everyone gives us their own energy and quality. Every time a player gets fitter and is ready to help the team, it’s a good feeling.”

Following on from Wednesday night’s battling 2-0 win at Coventry City, the Tigers head coach has revealed there are some players carrying knocks into the weekend, but hopes the walking wounded will be OK.

“We have some knocks and we’ll wait until tomorrow to see how serious they are. I’m hoping we won’t be missing anyone.”

Arveladze also revealed that Tyler Smith missed the win at the CBS Arena with an injury, and that the clash with the Hatters will come too soon for the ex-Sheffield United frontman, and so too out of favour midfielder Andy Cannon.
