Hull City ace cancels honeymoon to help with Premier League push
Matt Ingram has postponed his honeymoon to aid Luton Town's unlikely bid for play-off glory this month, boss Nathan Jones has revealed. The goalkeeper, on loan from Hull City, was drafted in by Jones for the Hatters' penultimate two games of the regular season after regular goalkeepers James Shea and Jed Steer both picked up serious injuries.
Ingram, who has played 29 times for City this season before moving on an emergency deal was handed something of a baptism of fire conceding seven on his debut at Fulham, but responded with a clean sheet on Saturday when Luton secured their top-six berth with a 1-0 win over Reading at Kenilworth Road.
Town now face Huddersfield Town over two legs for a place in the £195m Championship play-off final at Wembley, with Ingram likely to play a key part, and Jones has praised the attitude of City's stopper after delaying his trip to the Maldives with wife Amelia, who he married last year during the Covid pandemic.
“He cancelled his honeymoon, if he had any sense he’d have cancelled his wedding, but he’s in a wonderful place, so we’re delighted for him," Jones told reporters. "I just wanted to emphasise the fact that what a wonderful thing that he does something he hasn't got to do, to come in and have the opportunity to play in play-offs. I was fortunate enough to play in three play-offs, some don’t get that opportunity. To be able to do that just shows the commitment to us and that's a loan player, so fantastic.
