"Huge blow" - Journalist now drops worrying Liverpool verdict after recent development

Liverpool losing Sadio Mane would be a “huge blow” for Jurgen Klopp, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £72m-rated attacker is expected to end his six-year stay at Anfield this summer following weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future.

With just 12 months remaining on Mane’s contract, the upcoming transfer window was always likely to prove crucial in the Senegal international’s career.

According to The Athletic, the 30-year-old was to inform the Reds’ hierarchy that he wants to leave after their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, with the Guardian reporting that Mane wants a new experience following eight seasons in English football with Southampton and Liverpool.

The report adds that Liverpool have been trying to convince Mane to extend his stay at the club, with the winger playing a massive part in their success in the Premier League and Europe in recent years, but the African Cup of Nations winner is set to move on.

And Mane already looks to have found a new club, with Bayern Munich close to agreeing a deal for his services.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’ll be a huge blow [to lose him]. Sadio Mane has been an unsung hero for the last six seasons at Anfield.

“He was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first big signings and he’s been an astute piece of business having established himself as one of the best players in the world during his time at Anfield, so to lose somebody of his calibre would come as a blow, because it’s not an easy fix to try and replace him, because he’s such a key player for Liverpool and never seemed to get injured.”
