Huddersfield Town face nine keep or release decisions with contracts set to expire

Huddersfield Town have decisions to make over nine current first-team players this summer with their deals set to come to an end. But which of them should be kept on, and which players might give them the opportunity to refresh the squad with new players? Here’s our verdicts on each of them…

Perfectly good back-up, and that’s all Huddersfield Town need with Lee Nicholls not getting displaced anytime soon. Keeping the former Sheffield United man around might also allow Ryan Schofield to go out and get regular football elsewhere, which he needs at this stage. If he’s happy enough to stay on the bench, keep him around.

Clearly it hasn't worked out for him at Town, and the best thing would be for him to find a new club from which he can join Peterborough United on loan.

Huddersfield Town summer departures include three transferred again and four play-off contenders

Will turn 35 at the beginning of next season and has not played a minute for Carlos Corberan’s side since December – and hasn’t even got onto the bench other than in the FA Cup. The striker had a decent knock for his hometown club at a time when they needed him, but things have moved on a bit since he signed.

With Jordan Rhodes and Danny Ward both over 30 too, a younger model should take priority over extending Campell’s deal – unless there were some kind of ambassadorial/coaching/mentoring role he could step into alongside minimal playing duties.

The midfielder has revealed previously that Town wanted to tie him to a longer-term deal than his current contract, which only runs until the end of the season. If he didn't accept that in January then his lack of playing time so far is unlikely to have changed his mind; but there's still time to convince him.
