Huddersfield Town and Luton Town charged by FA following angry scenes in Championship clash

Huddersfield Town and Luton Town have both been charged for failing to control their players after a brawl in their Championship game earlier this week. A fracas broke out when Luton forward Elijah Adebayo missed a penalty in the 70th minute.

Town playmaker Lewis O'Brien looked to have said something to the Hatters forward as he celebrated the miss, with Luton defender Kal Naismaith reacting angrily and barging O'Brien to the floor, sparking a flashpoint that saw players from both sides go piling in.

Naismith and Fred Onyedinma were shown yellow cards for their involvement for Luton, while Sorba Thomas was given a booking for Town. Both clubs now have until Thursday 21st April to respond to the charge.

Town would go on to take all three points from the tie leaving them in a brilliant position heading into the final part of the season. Goals from Jon Russell and Naby Sarr gave Carlos Corberan's side maximum points at the John Smith's Stadium.

An FA statement said: "Huddersfield Town and Luton Town FC have been charged with a breach of FA Rules E20.1 following their EFL Championship game on Monday (11/04/22). It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 70th minute, and they have until Thursday (21/04/22) to reply."

The most likely outcome if the charges are proven would be a fine for the respective clubs.
