Huddersfield suffer Jermaine McGillvary injury blow

Huddersfield coach Ian Watson says he expects to be without Jermaine McGillvary for a while after picking up a knee injury in their defeat at St Helens.

The former England winger was forced to leave the field in the second half of their 25-0 defeat at St Helens on Friday night.

Watson says he may look to recall Ireland World Cup hopeful Louis Senior from Hull KR after losing Jermaine McGillvary.

“He felt he heard a crack,” said Watson. “He’s on crutches and we’ll have to get it scanned but will be out for a while. It’s a blow because he’s been massive for us.”

Watson confirmed he will be without star full-back Tui Lolohea for a fortnight after missing Friday’s game with an ankle injury.

Watson said St Helens were too good for his side on Friday night, saying it looked they had a man less despite Saints forward Sione Mata’utia being sent off in the 16th minute.

Watson said: “First of all I thought Saints were outstanding. It looked like we were a man down.

“It was the kind of intensity we needed because we’ve not had that since the Challenge Cup final.

“I’m really confident with where we’re going. That was not our starting team out there and we will learn from this.

“In the first half we were fine, we worked hard and did the right things, we just didn’t execute the shots we had but that’s down to them.

“I thought their crowd lifted, they gave them that energy to defend their goal line.

“
