Huddersfield’s Carlos Corberan sends transfer warning to Leeds and others after Wembley defeat

Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan has said he does not believe that any of his players will want to leave this summer – in a warning to Leeds United and the other clubs considering summer swoops.

The Terriers were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s Championship play-off final at Wembley meaning their promotion dreams are over and they’ll be competing in the second tier again next term.

That could leave them vulnerable to raids from top flight clubs for their key assets and midfielder Lewis O’Brien appears a player in demand.

Reports yesterday indicated that Leeds are prepared to trigger the £10 million release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract while FLW exclusively revealed earlier this season that Crystal Palace are also interested.

However, despite Huddersfield’s Wembley defeat yesterday, Corberan has warned any clubs interested in his players that he does not believe anyone will want to leave the John Smith’s Stadium this summer.

Asked whether he was confident that the club could replace anyone that did depart, he said: “I think so.

“The players that we cannot keep – they will be, they won’t be.

“I will work with the players that we have but I am watching one dressing room. I think if you ask any of our players to leave, I don’t think they will consider this option.

“I think they will want to stay. I think they feel well.”

The Verdict

Huddersfield fans will love to hear Corberan’s confidence and it speaks to both the belief and the togetherness of the group that he feels no one will want to leave.

That said, should Leeds trigger the £10 million release clause in O’Brien’s contract it is hard to see the midfielder turning down the prospect of Premier League football.

The Terriers do look likely
