Hrustic ends Bundesliga goal drought
Socceroos midfielder Ajdin Hrustic has ended his Bundesliga goal drought with a match-winning double for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Hrustic, who hadn't scored in the German top-flight since May 2021, came off the bench for the second half to fire home a brilliant volley moments later before netting a deflected winner for the visitors in their 3-2 win at Stuttgart.
The 25-year-old made it 2-1 for Frankfurt when he sensationally fired home a left-footed volley from the edge of the box direct from a Christopher Lenz corner.
Hrustic then struck again in the 77th minute when his curling left-foot shot from 20 yards deflected off Konstantinos Mavropanos to give his goalkeeper no chance.
The win lifted Frankfurt to ninth with Stuttgart second bottom.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich had to fight hard for a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig to extend their Bundesliga lead over Borussia Dortmund to nine points.
Thomas Muller broke the deadlock in the Allianz Arena in the 12th minute only for Leipzig too long to level things up with Portuguese striker Andre Silva.
Bayern were ahead before the break thanks to a header by top scorer Robert Lewandowski but Leipzig equalized again as Christopher Nkunku struck early in the second half.
But the visitors were unlucky when Josko Gvardiol turned a cross from Serge Gnabry into an own goal, sealing the victory for Bayern.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said his side secured a "beautiful win," while Muller said they deserved the victory despite an equal game.
"Both teams showed an attractive game, both tried to be offensive but I would say we deserved to win," Muller said.
