Shonga ends goal drought after 455 days: 'It is a nice feeling!'

Former Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga is thrilled to have broken his long-standing goal drought by scoring on his Sekhukhune United debut.

Shonga's third-minute strike in the 4-0 DStv Premiership victory over Baroka FC on Sunday was his first in 455 days.

The Zambian joined Sekhukhune in the January transfer window after an unsuccessful one-and-a-half year in Egypt with top-flight club Ismaily SC. He failed to register a goal in eight appearances.

"It's a nice feeling," Shonga said.

"It's a good start for me because, you know, football-wise, I've been struggling to settle in at teams. I would say it's a good start. And I just want to keep the momentum.

"When you're playing for a new club and have just arrived, you need to adapt to the way they play.

"You have to work extra hard for you to put yourself in the first starting eleven because to be in the starting eleven, you have to push yourself.

"So I'm gonna keep on pushing harder, and I'm so happy with the start, so I'll keep going."

Sekhukhune are back in action on Saturday against relegation-threatened Swallows FC.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
