How to update your Chrome browser as Google issues urgent bug warning

Google Chrome users are being urged to update their browsers immediately after the discovery of a bug that could put their personal data at risk.

Millions of people use the browser to check their emails, update social media and do online shopping. Now, they're being warned to check which version they have installed without delay, reports the Mirror.

The bug has been given a dreaded zero-day rating, which means it's been spotted and is being actively exploited by cyber crooks in the wild. This is why Google is acting so fast to fix it in a new update.

Explaining more, Google said: "Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2023-3079 exists in the wild." Anyone who uses this browser now needs to check that they have updated to 114.0.5735.106 for Mac and Linux and 114.0.5735.110 for Windows.

Google says that it is rolling out this update now and should be available across the globe in the coming days. It's currently unclear exactly what the bug is capable of with Google keeping full details under wraps until the majority of Chrome users have made the switch to the update.

"Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven’t yet fixed," the tech giant added.

"We would also like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel," Google added.
