How to get rid of spiders and stop them from coming back into your home for good

Anybody who has a fear of spiders will most likely dread 'spider season' which comes around the same time every year. The dreaded mating season typically starts in the UK in September and runs through to mid-October.

During this time, male spiders will leave their webs and enter homes in search for females to mate with, which is why you may notice more of them indoors over the coming weeks. Although they may be harmless, most people aren't best pleased to find the eight-legged creatures lurking in their living rooms and scurrying across their bedroom floors.

Experts are now giving advice to anyone finding an influx of creepy-crawlies invading their homes during 'spider season'. Tiger’s Garden building expert Sam Jenkinson has put together some top tips on how to get rid of spiders and deter them from entering your house for good.

Spiders don't like the smell of peppermint, citrus or vinegar, so you can use these natural repellents to deter spiders from your living spaces.

"To make a peppermint spray, mix 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil with water in a spray bottle," advises Sam. "Spray the mixture around your home, paying special attention to windowsills, doorways, and other areas where spiders might enter.

"You can also rub citrus peels or place cotton balls dipped in vinegar around your home for a similar effect."

Spiders can squeeze through any tiny cracks or openings, so it's important to seal them up. "Pay special attention to windows, doors, and vents," Sam said, "You can use caulk or sealant to seal up any cracks or gaps where necessary."
