How Manchester United should line up vs Leeds in first pre-season fixture

There will be a different look to Manchester United when they begin their pre-season preparations against Leeds later today. Erik ten Hag's side are in Oslo for the opening match of their summer schedule, with forgotten faces, promising youngsters, and a new signing all set to get their chance.

With the focus on building fitness ahead of the new season, most players will get on the pitch at some stage, which makes it tricky to predict who will be involved from the start.

United will be without 15 senior stars who were involved over the recent international break for the match, and more who haven't travelled through injury, meaning there will be plenty of changes in the side.

It's typical of Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial they're unavailable when there is no competition. Van de Beek has a habit of going missing when opportunity knocks and Martial's recovery could be so inordinate the clocks could go back and he might still be 'rehabilitating'.

United will have a handful of first-teamers to start and Mason Mount's role should be higher up the pitch on his maiden appearance in red. Kobbie Mainoo could be the fifth midfielder for the forthcoming season and he is fit again.

Alvaro Fernandez is worth a look over Brandon Williams while Amad might have to occupy a role that is not conducive to his strengths.

Selection for this game will be dependant on factors we don't see, with players at different levels of readiness as they return for pre-season training, while there
