How Man City should line up vs Newcastle in Premier League

Manchester City will hope to welcome back some of their absent players from the midweek trip to Greece for their Premier League clash with Newcastle.

City won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday without Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Ruben Dias. De Bruyne is a long-term injury doubt, while Stones and Dias were on the bench after minor injuries and could return against Newcastle. Bernardo didn't travel to Athens through illness, while Joao Cancelo was also missing from the squad.

Pep Guardiola handed Josko Gvardiol his full debut on Wednesday where he played at left-back, although the Croat could make way if Stones and Dias return to the back line.

Cole Palmer scored a lovely header against Sevilla in a Man of the Match performance on the right wing, and will hope to have done enough to keep his place on Saturday night.

With Stones out and Dias doubtful, it doesn't make sense to risk Dias with a longer-term plan in mind. That means a repeat of the back four from Wednesday - unless Rico Lewis came in at left-back to freshen things up. Still, with Newcastle's attack, Lewis might not be the best option.

The midfield looked a bit disjointed against Sevilla, Julian Alvarez, who wasn't fit enough to play the full game in Greece, should come back in. He can help link the midfield and attack, while having an eye over his shoulder against Newcastle's formidable trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
