Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez start - predicted Man City XI vs Sheffield United

Manchester City are looking to retain their 100 per cent Premier League record when they travel to Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Wins over Burnley and Newcastle have got the ball rolling having already lifted silverware this season with their UEFA Super Cup triumph in Greece this month. City are going for a fourth straight top-flight English title, something never achieved before.

Sheffield United play hosts on Sunday having yet to register a point in their opening two matches. City will be expecting a low block from the newly promoted side, meaning the visitors will be required to unlock a tightly packed defence.

Erling Haaland opened his Premier League account against fellow new boys Burnley on the opening night and the Leeds-born goal monster may fancy his chances in Sheffield.

Julian Alvarez got the winner against Newcastle and will be looking for more game time this season, especially amid Kevin De Bruyne's injury. He could play just off Haaland once more.

Phil Foden took on the creative mantle in De Bruyne’s absence against Newcastle and blossomed. He may start on the right but drift inside to dovetail with Alvarez behind Haaland.

Jack Grealish has made the left wing spot his own while Mateo Kovacic is expected to partner Rodri in midfield. He could soon have company with City chasing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, having seen an initial £47m bid rebuffed.

Josko Gvardiol could be given the nod at left-back after a full week’s rest as he continues to bed into his new club.

Meanwhile, an unchanged back line in front of Ederson could compose Ruben Dias, Manu Akanji and Kyle Walker, who now looks set to stay at the Etihad despite interest from Bayern Munich.
