How Man City should line up vs Brentford in the Premier League

Manchester City end their triumphant Premier League campaign with a trip to Brentford on Sunday. The champions clinched the title last weekend with three league games still to play.

It means that the Blues have been able to treat those remaining matches as preparation for the FA Cup final against Manchester United and the Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Brentford, though, have enjoyed another excellent season and are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League next season if they can beat City. So Pep Guardiola faces an interesting team selection - balancing the need to be competitive in Sunday's match with keeping his squad fit and ready for the challenges ahead.

With so many players doubtful, this is a difficult team to predict. If anyone is 50/50 in terms of fitness they shouldn't be risked, and there are others who could do with a run-out before the two finals. In attack, I'd give Erling Haaland an hour, and also give Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez one last chance on the wings to try and persuade Guardiola they deserve a place in the last two games.

Kevin De Bruyne is close to the assists record so should start, but with Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva getting deserved rests. Julian Alvarez can play behind Haaland, with De Bruyne a little deeper. Rodri is another who would benefit from a rest - but if Guardiola wants to keep up momentum, he is the best holding midfielder City have. Kalvin Phillips can come off the bench if the chance presents itself.
