How Man City academy talent can help improve Guardiola's attacking depth

Four seasons ago, Manchester City’s EDS side had never won the Premier League 2 title. This season they will be looking to become champions for the fourth year in a row.

This summer alone, players previously registered to Brian Barry-Murphy’s U21 squad have been sold for a combined £36m, mainly in the form of the departures of James Trafford, Carlos Borges and Shea Charles. This is discounting the £42m sale of academy-produced Cole Palmer.

Here are four academy players, still at Manchester City, that could help provide attacking depth for Guardiola’s men this season:

The 20-year-old Norwegian made his Premier League debut in City’s 5-1 thrashing of Fulham and is clearly admired by the senior coaching staff at the Etihad. Juanmo Lillo, who is standing in for Pep Guardiola, described the winger as having “Great potential.”

“We have great expectations for Oscar, He’s won his place in the squad through his talent. He's a very alive player on the pitch, he’s very daring and he’s someone who can play on the inside and outside.”

The young winger is an exciting watch and looks to take on his man through trickery and changes of pace. His recent promotion to the first-team squad has somewhat thrust him in the limelight a lot more than in previous seasons. However, his two EDS player of the year awards speak for themselves in his reasoning for being a part of the first team setup.

Described as being “equally comfortable playing out wide as well as in the number 10 role,” the 19-year-old may be in line for a first-team appearance soon.
