The greatest prize in Flat racing is on offer today as the Group 1 Cazoo Derby is underway at 4:30 this afternoon at Epsom Downs.

Sadly, HM The Queen will not be in attendance today but the horses are the stars and favourite for the prize is Desert Crown.

The Nathaniel colt won the Dante Stakes at York and that is widely perceived as the best trial for the Derby. Were he to win today, he’d create history for Sir Michael Stoute – who would be the oldest winning trainer of the Derby – while this would be a first Derby for rider Richard Kingscote.

Aidan O’Brien won the Oaks yesterday with Tuesday and he bids to double up with Stone Age the pick of his runners.

He made virtually all in the Leopardstown Derby trial having surprisingly been beaten in all five starts as a juvenile.

O’Brien also saddles Chester Vase winner Changingoftheguard and the colt will be racing on ground that is significantly quicker than that obtained on the day.

Housewives favourite Frankie Dettori is invariably popular and he will ride Piz Badile for Donnacha O’Brien. He is a son of Ulysses – a colt that was trained by Sir Michael Stoute to victory in the Eclipse in 2017.
