Horror as neighbours hear 'three loud bangs' as gunshots blasted at house with children inside

Neighbours heard 'three loud bangs' beside an estate in Cheetham Hill on Sunday night (July 23) as gunshots were blasted at a house with terrified children still inside.

Police were called to Hambridge Close at around 9.35pm following reports of shots being fired at a home on the estate. Four young children were inside who have been left 'incredibly shaken' by the ordeal.

Horrified residents living nearby told of how officers remained at the scene overnight with a cordon in place, and that they were seen carrying out fingertip searches of the area.

Greater Manchester Police, who are investigating, have said nobody was injured in the incident and that they are treating it as 'isolated' with no wider threat to the community.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, a neighbour who asked to remain anonymous said: "We heard the three loud bangs quite late yesterday evening. I actually didn't think much of it at first and assumed it was kids messing around with fireworks because that happens quite a lot.

"It's directly behind my house. There are always kids causing problems around there and we have had a number of issues with the estate in the past. The police actually used to leave a car parked there.

"It's gotten so much worse over the years. I've lived here for most of my life and when you look at it now, there are no facilities so the young people just fall into crime. In the last 20 years this area has deteriorated so badly.

"I have become quite thick-skinned to it all now, which is wrong to say really. But to think a shooting can happen on your doorstep is horrifying really."
