Dad-of-seven who would 'do anything for anyone' dies after East Lancs Road horror smash

A much-loved dad-of-seven who had a 'huge presence' has died following a crash on the East Lancs Road. Alan Munroe, from Wigan, was rushed to hospital following a horror smash last Thursday (July 27).

Tragically, the 39-year-old died in hospital on Tuesday (August 1), Merseyside Police confirmed today (Thursday). Alan had been riding a Honda motorbike which was involved in a crash with a blue Ford Focus, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The incident took place at the junction with Coopers Lane, in Kirkby, Merseyside. Speaking to the Echo at the weekend, his brother Andrew Munroe said Alan was a huge Wigan Warriors rugby fan who was a member of the No More Knives campaign.

Andrew, 37, said his brother was a 'boss singer' who had a 'huge presence' when entering a room. He added: "He’s always got a joke up his sleeve, he’s funny, passionate about things and has a brilliant, sarcastic sense of humour.

"He has the biggest heart and would do absolutely anything for anyone. His family means the world to him."

Merseyside Police says Alan was rushed to Aintree Hospital in a critical condition following the crash, which took place between 8.35pm and 8.45pm on the Manchester-bound carriageway of the East Lancs Road. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who may be able to assist in providing information about the incident. Officers are especially keen to speak with the drivers of the following vehicles who have been identified as being in the area at the time of the collision:
