Horizon Forbidden West: Should you play in Performance or Resolution mode?

Horizon Forbidden West has been released worldwide on PS5, but should you be using Quality/Resolution or Performance mode when you first boot up the game?

The game has also been released on PS4 but the last-generation console does not offer a choice between the two modes.

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most gorgeous games ever created, as Guerrilla Games have crafted a genuinely beautiful follow-up to Horizon Zero Dawn.

It is a critical darling, too, with Metacritic showing that it has received some outstanding review scores.

Per the review aggregator, there have been 106 reviews for the game, with the score standing at 88. An even 100 of those reviews have been positive, with six being mixed; that means there hasn’t been a single negative review from a game outlet.

Even the audience score is mightily impressive, standing at 8.1 from over 4,400 reviews at the time of writing. It stands out as the top reviewed PS5 game of the year so far.

As we mentioned, these settings are only available on the PS5 version of the game.

The Performance mode offers you a locked frame rate of 60 frames per second (FPS) and a resolution of 1800p resolution. That’s pretty impressive.

The Quality mode, though, runs in native 4K and targets 30FPS.

Those graphical resolution settings are, of course, maximums, while the frame rate will occasionally dip.
