"His time at West Brom is more or less done" – Journalist now drops big claim from The Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is set to depart the club following the conclusion of the current campaign, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The 29-year-old only has a few months left to run on his contract and has refused the offer of a new deal, opening the door to an imminent exit.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to ‘battle it out’ for Johnstone’s signature when the market reopens for business.

The three-cap England international is believed to be keen to get back to the Premier League ahead of the 2022 World Cup after impressing throughout his maiden campaign in the top-flight.

Despite West Brom’s eventual relegation last term, Johnstone kept six clean sheets in his 37 league appearances, earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad.

However, the 6 foot 4 ace has been unable to inspire the Baggies to a successful promotion push this time around as they are currently sitting in 12th position in the Championship table, eight points outside the play-offs with just five games remaining.

That hasn’t deterred several Premier League sides from taking a keen interest in Johnstone, though, with Southampton also said to be keeping close tabs on his situation.

United are believed to be eager to re-sign their academy graduate due to his availability on a free transfer as current number two Dean Henderson is eager to secure regular first-team football.
