"Best piece of business they could do" - Journalist drops internal claim on 207-game Wolves star

Wolverhampton Wanderers will pull off their ‘best piece of business’ if they succeed in tying Ruben Neves down to a new long-term contract at Molineux, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The West Midlands outfit are preparing themselves for a potential bidding war due to Neves gaining interest from various clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Neves is due to enter the final 12 months of his £58,000-per-week contract during the summer, leading to admirers being put on red alert and Wolves wanting to agree fresh terms with the midfielder.

According to The Sun, Wolves have opened talks over a new deal in a bid to fend off interest from Arsenal.

The report suggests the 26-cap Portugal international is high on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta’s wishlist, while Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation.

Barcelona are keen to prise Neves away from Molineux and have reportedly already held discussions with the 25-year-old’s intermediaries.

A move to Italy could otherwise be on the cards as it is understood that Juventus have entered the race for his signature.

Holland believes keeping Neves and persuading him to pen a new contract at Molineux would outdo any other Wolves business, including potential arrivals, during the upcoming transfer window.

Head coach Bruno Lage has underlined Neves’ importance by claiming he is worth £100million.

Holland feels ensuring the 207-game Wolves ace remains in the West Midlands is the top priority for Lage.
