Ex-Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is being considered for the current managerial vacancy at Lincoln City, as per Football Insider.

The Imps are seeking a new man in the dugout after Michael Appleton left his role as manager following the conclusion of the League One season.

According to the Football Insider report, Carrick has discussed the current vacancy with the club and is weighing up the interest.

The report also states that Carrick is keen to find a permanent manager role after being an assistant at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With that being said, we asked some of our writers here at FLW for their thoughts on whether or not Carrick would be a good appointment for the Imps.

I would say so yes, obviously there is very limited managerial experience to go off, but Carrick has gained valuable skills in recent years and would have learnt from some high profile figures.

Even the way he played the game, you could tell that his football brain was very astute and Lincoln would be a good club to start at.

The expectations would not be enormous, a top half finish would indicate success next term, and there is enough ambition present, that if given time to build something, promotion to the Championship would be possible in the next few seasons.

Michael Appleton had more recent coaching pedigree when he took the job at Sincil Bank and carrying on that approach with Carrick would be an exciting prospect.
