Manchester United blasted for appointing 'absolute joke' Ralf Rangnick following his exit

Manchester United’s appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager has been labelled an "absolute joke" following the German’s departure from the club.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Rangnick will not be taking up a consultancy role at United, despite having agreed on a two-year deal upon his appointment as interim. The 63-year-old has instead chosen to focus on his new role as manager of the Austria national team.

Having taken over on a temporary basis following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, Rangnick failed to resolve United’s issues as the season continued to spiral out of control, resulting in the club missing out on a top-four finish. His time in charge was also marred by constant reports of discontent in the dressing room, as well as players being unhappy with his methods.

Rangnick ended his spell with the worst win percentage of any United manager in the Premier League era, having won just 10 of his 24 games in charge. And the decision to appoint him has been blasted in an extraordinary rant by former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

“The Ralf Rangnick situation for me is an absolute joke,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “Who appointed him in the first place? Who brought him in?

“Then the fact he comes over here and he’s the ‘professor’ of the game, that’s what winds me up the most, we have to deal with people coming over and thinking they know better than the people over here. We’ve got the best league in the world, we’ve got the best managers in the world and the best coaches in the world.
