High-flying Hamilton Accies won't treat Montrose lightly, insists midfield ace

Kyle MacDonald says Hamilton Accies won’t treat Montrose lightly on Saturday, because he knows exactly how League One works.

The midfielder reckons he’s played at least a part of every season of his career in the third tier, and knows the teams inside-out, having helped Dunfermline win the title last season.

MacDonald says you don’t get handed anything, and has never had an ‘easy’ game against the Gable Endies.

He said: “Montrose have been in League One for a long time, I think they’re one of the longest-serving teams in the league.

“I’ve faced them quite a few times and Montrose are always a really tough team to play – I don’t think I’ve ever had an easy game against Montrose.

“They will be looking to come and beat us, they won’t be thinking anything else other than taking three points off us, and we’ll be thinking the same.

“We’re bursting with confidence. It’s really important to start the league off well.

“I did that last year at Dunfermline and look how that turned out!

“But we’re only three games in, it’s nothing to get too ahead of ourselves, because we’ve only played three of the teams and you don’t know what’s going to happen round the corner next week.

“We just want to take it a game at a time, try and pick up three points and when the next game comes, we’ll be looking to win that – that’s all we can really do.

“We can’t take any game for granted in this league, this league is tough. There are good teams in it, and it’s always a battle.

“If you’re winning games 1-0 or 2-0 that’s a good sign that you’re on the right track.

“I think I’ve played in League One at least at some point every season in my career, and I know the league.
