Hibs in 'swift action' as vile Rangers graffiti mocking Ibrox Disaster leads to hardline fan ban

Hibs have taken swift action after fans vandalised seats at Ibrox with taunts mocking victims of the Ibrox Disaster.

A number of seats in the away end had the number 66 scrawled across them in green paint in a sick reference to the number of fans who lost their lives on Stairway 13 when tragedy struck on January 2, 1971. Shocked Rangers staff also discovered stickers placed on a number of seats after the 4-0 defeat in the Premiership clash reading: “Stairwell Thirteen – it’s the greatest sight that I have ever seen.”

IRA graffiti and abuse aimed at the late Queen Elizabeth II was also found, enraging Ibrox bosses. But the Edinburgh Evening News report that Hibs have banned one fan already and are looking to identify others who were involved in the incident that saw both clubs come out with strong criticism of the actions in the visiting section.

In a statement issued within hours of the incident being reported on Saturday night, the club declared: “Hibernian FC is aware of the intolerable graffiti and stickers found in the away end at Ibrox today and condemns the behaviour of the individuals that were involved..
