Hibs gap to Celtic is depressing so I'm issuing SPFL Premiership SOS to step up and a lay a glove on them - Tam McManus

This is an SOS call for Scottish football.

Would somebody please step up and try and make a fist of laying a glove on the Old Firm, the credibility of our game is at stake. Look across all of the leagues across the world, is there any which starts every season with the type of formality we have in our top flight? Maybe there's an Amazonian village league which has yet to be discovered which is dominated in the way Celtic do but I'd doubt it.

A one horse race has now been joined by Rangers who look capable of sustaining a title challenge but they are short of what's required to dethrone their rivals. This is nothing new, we all know the financial reasons behind the status quo but we should all be worried that the gap between the big two and the rest is only getting bigger and bigger.

It's a two team league which will finish with a plus 30 point margin between the Old Firm and the rest, that's deeply damaging for respect levels for our domestic football. An Aberdeen side which is supposed to be one which will be challenging for third place being absolutely trounced by Celtic on Sunday. After only 11 Premiership games they are now 23 points behind the champions and even though they've played two games less, it's a dreadful statistic.

I could be far harsher and call it shameful but they aren't alone in being a country mile away from the leaders, Hibs are 20 points off the pace at this stage and it's utterly depressing. There should be a greater demand on clubs such as Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen, they need to improve and become more than just big clubs on paper who have gone decades in the Premiership of just making up the numbers.
