Rangers risk 'losing' Todd Cantwell if Philippe Clement takes one more drastic step as personal feud swerved

Tam McManus reckons Rangers risk "losing" Todd Cantwell if Philippe Clement drops the star to the bench for the clash with St Mirren.

But the former Hibs striker reckons that the Belgian boss simply doesn't rate Cantwell after substituting the playmaker after just 35 minutes in the Europa League clash with Aris Limassol. The former Norwich City star was replaced in the first-half by rising star Ross McCausland - with the 20-year-old wide man coming on to net the crucial leveller against the Cypriot side.

And while the Northern Ireland cap may feel he has earned a starting place following his heroics, McManus reckons it could be a major gamble if he leaves England U21 cap Cantwell on Sunday when Stephen Robinson's men make the trip to Govan. The pundit has told Clement that a start in the Scottish Premiership clash could bring the best out of Cantwell - with the enigmatic star looking to prove a point to the boss.

He told PLZ: "I'm interested to see the Rangers team at the weekend. I wonder if he will start Cantwell. If I'm a manager I would play Cantwell. I think you are at risk of losing the player if you put him on the bench again. I would start him and start him as a 10."

Pressed on if he thought there was "anything personal" in the decision to hook Cantwell in the first half. McManus went on: "I don't think it's anything personal, but just from my point of view as an ex-player I look at it and I think 'I don't think he fancies him'.

"I don't think he fancies him as a player. I don't know what he is like on the training ground, he might be a good lad, but I just don't think he is his (Clement's) type of player. If you drop him against St Mirren you might end up losing him completely. I would play Cantwell in the 10
