Heavy traffic and delays as police respond to crash on M61

Heavy traffic is building on a stretch of the M61 this morning after a crash.

Two lanes have been shut off on the southbound carriageway between junction eight for Chorley and junction six near Horwich. Police are on the scene, National Highways said.

Delays are building, with around two miles of congestion currently. National Highways said in a post on X: "Lanes 1 and 2 are CLOSED on the #M61 southbound between J8 #Chorley and J6 #Aspull due to a collision.

"Police are on scene. There are currently delays of 30 mins and approx. 2 miles of congestion."
