Heartbroken mum's warning to young people following devastating diagnosis

A mum has issued a warning to others after being told she has months to live. Caroline Dartnell first knew something was wrong when she started to experience problems with her eyes.

The 35-year-old, from Warrington, began struggling to focus last December. Her optician said it was likely due to stress and told Caroline to take some rest and a break from screens, but her vision began to deteriorate.

Caroline soon found herself unable to work as she could not read emails properly, the Liverpool Echo reports. She was referred to an eye specialist who said her vision was fine but after pushing for answers, Caroline was sent for a CT scan which let to a heartbreaking diagnosis.

Caroline was told she had stage 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour which was inoperable due to its location. Instead, she underwent six weeks of gruelling radiotherapy on the highest dose she could receive.

Caroline said: "Back in December I was experiencing troubles with my eyesight. It was going funny and I couldn't see properly, my vision was dark and not where it was normally. I was struggling and had to take time off work, I knew it wasn't normal, my eyes were fuzzy but the optician put it down to stress and told me to rest over Christmas because my eyes were fine from an optician point of view."

A glimmer of hope came when Caroline joined a trial for a new drug in Manchester but tests soon showed the tumour was growing and treatment was stopped. Doctors said there was nothing they could do and devastatingly, she was given just six months to live.
