'He said what needed to be said' - Manchester United fans' verdict on Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Sir Jim Ratcliffe sat down with journalists for an hour-long interview at INEOS headquarters in London on Wednesday morning.

The confirmation of Ratcliffe's acquisition of a minority stake in Manchester United came the previous night, hence why the 71-year-old was finally permitted to speak at length on the record.

Ratcliffe spoke on a wide range of topics, including Eric Cantona, his days supporting the club when he was a boy, his vision for the first team, Mason Greenwood and whether to revamp or rebuild Old Trafford. The British billionaire appeared to say most of the right things and hit the right notes.

But what did supporters think of Ratcliffe's media appearances? The MEN spoke to Dale O'Donnell of Stretty News and The Guardian's Dom Booth to gauge fan opinion on what was said.

We asked five questions about Ratcliffe and here's what Dale and Dom had to say.

Dale: "I find it reassuring that, for the first time in over 18 years, a major shareholder is willing to meet media and fans to answer questions face-to-face. Ratcliffe also echoes many of the same sentiments as United fans and views the club as a community asset."

Dom: "As both a fan and a journalist, I was impressed. Ratcliffe really seems to care about United, which is quite the novelty in itself after nearly two decades of the Glazers' contempt for the club. It's obvious Ratcliffe will be more present, open to talk to the media (and by proxy the fans) and invested in United in a quite literal sense. That can only be a good thing."
