'He is a class player' - Rasmus Hojlund sends message to ‘dissatisfied’ Manchester United teammate

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has shown empathy for Christian Eriksen’s struggle for minutes in Erik ten Hag’s side.

The United teammates have both been called up for international duty and are part of Denmark’s squad for the friendlies against Switzerland and Faroe Islands. Hojlund has reported for international duty in top form, having scored seven goals in his last seven games, but Eriksen is in a slightly different situation.

Experienced midfielder Eriksen, 32, has not started a match since the draw with Tottenham Hotspur on January 14, featuring twice from the bench in the club’s last 10 games. The rise of Kobbie Mainoo has pushed Eriksen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and Hojlund feels he can relate to Eriksen’s predicament.

“I myself have sat on the bench for FC Copenhagen, so I know what that means,” Hojlund told TV2. “But he holds his head high and he is a class player. There is absolutely no doubt about that.

“There is no concern at all from me about it. Of course, you want to play football. And I’m sure he does too. (But) he trains well and is still very positive and very helpful, so it’s not a big deal. (Eriksen is) a real professional.”

Eriksen’s contract is due to run until 2025 after signing a three-year deal as a free agent. The midfielder will understandably hope to increase his minutes ahead of representing Denmark at Euro 2024 in the summer but recently revealed that he understands his role and is ready to step up for Ten Hag’s team, whenever called upon.
