Hat-trick hero Bimenyimana helps Chiefs down 10-man Stellies

Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana entered South African folklore on Sunday after scoring a hat-trick of penalties to help Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

Hosts Stellenbosch named an unchanged side for the fixture, while Chiefs made one change from their previous game, bringing in Siyabonga Ngezana for the suspended Zitha Kwinka.

The away side had the brighter start as they put the Stellenbosch defence under immediate pressure. Chiefs thought they broke the deadlock within the first thirty seconds through Caleb Bimenyimana; however, the goal was ruled out as the striker was deemed to have fouled Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens in the buildup.. A few minutes later, Stephens was once again tested, but he denied Ashley Du Preez from a tight angle.

Despite Chiefs' early dominance, the AmaKhosi caused their own downfall as Stellenbosch broke the deadlock courtesy of Nhlahna Mgaga as he pounced on a loose ball and smashed it beyond a helpless Itumeleng Khune in the twenty-ninth minute.

Chiefs produced a superb response as they immediately put the Stellies backline under pressure, forcing the Stellies keeper into several quality saves.

Stellies looked certain to go into the break with a lead until Bimenyimana was brought down in the area on the stroke of halftime by Mogamad De Goede. He stepped up score from the spot to take the sides level into the interval.

The second half produced more of the same, with Chiefs putting Stellenbosch under pressure immediately after the whistle. It took just four second-half minutes for the hosts to cave in as left-back Fawaaz Basadien was judged to have handled the ball, allowing Bimenyimana to score his second of the afternoon.

The drama was not over
